Join Books Inc. for a Celebration of the 1st Anniversary of the Overturning of Prop 8 with two of the people who made it happen, David Boies and Theodore Olson!
Join Books Inc. and the San Francisco LGBT Community Center for a riveting look at the inside story of the Supreme Court's landmark rulings on the defining civil rights struggle of our times--The Defense of Marriage Act and Proposition 8--from the two lawyers who argued the case, David Boies and Theodore B. Olson, discussing Redeeming the Dream: The Case for Marriage Equality.

Selected by Time magazine as two of the 100 Most Influential People in the World in 2010, David Boies and Theodore B. Olson argued opposing sides in Bush v. Gore in 2000. In 2009 the unlikely pair united, seeking to overturn California's unconstitutional ban on gay marriage, Proposition 8. Redeeming the Dream is the fascinating story of this alliance, and the titanic five-year battle to win the right for gays to marry, from Proposition 8's adoption by voters in 2008, to its defeat before the highest court in the land in Hollingsworth v. Perry in 2013.

A brilliant guide through the legal framing of the case, Boies and Olson make crystal clear the constitutional principles of due process and equal protection in support of marriage equality while explaining, with intricacy, the basic human truths they set out to prove when the duo put state-sanctioned discrimination on trial.

About the Authors:

David Boies: Since 1997 Mr. Boies has been the Chairman of Boies, Schiller & Flexner LLP, a law firm with offices in New York, Washington D.C., California, Florida, Nevada, and New Hampshire. He has been named Global International Litigator of the Year by Who's Who Legal an unprecedented seven times, including 2013. Among his numerous awards, Mr. Boies has been honored with the Award of Merit from the Yale Law School, the ABA Medal from the American Bar Association, the Vanderbilt Medal from New York University Law School, and the Lead by Example Award from the National Association of Women Lawyers.

Theodore B. Olson: Theodore B. Olson is a partner in Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher's Washington, D.C. office, a member of the firm's Executive Committee, Co-Chair of the Appellate and Constitutional Law Group and the firm's Crisis Management Team. From 1981-1984 he was Assistant Attorney General in charge of the Office of Legal Counsel in the U.S. Department of Justice. Except for those two intervals, he has been a lawyer with Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. since 1965.
